About our Shelters
GoYurt shelters are inspired by the Central Asian yurt, known also as a ger. We have blended this structure with
modern engineering and design to create a yurt that unparalleled in it's beauty, utility and craftsmanship.
Our shelters redefine the modern yurt, by looking to the past and returning focus to some of the best aspects of this traditional nomadic shelter: it's portability and simplicity.
GoYurt shelters are the most portable and easiest to setup yurts available. We have spent years refining our design through real world testing to create a structure you can take anywhere.
Hand finished in limited quantities, each GoYurt shelter is individually numbered. Mindful of our impact on the environment, we have done our best to make our shelters from renewable and recyclable materials that are made to last.
Design
We are focused on making yurts that are highly portable and easy to setup. Our design, while strongly influenced by the Mongolian Ger, incorporates many unique enhancements that allow you to setup our yurts quickly and consistently with no tools.
Our patent pending wall unions allow you to easily join wall sections together. These unions also set the height of the wall, ensuring you setup your yurt the same way every time.
We have engineered our yurts to use a minimum of material reducing weight and bulk, while still allowing for a robust and durable structure.
Materials
GoYurt shelters are built to last, using the best in natural and modern materials.
From the start, we have been mindful of the impact the materials we are using have on the environment. We have thoroughly evaluated every material we use, and have done our best to use renewable and recyclable materials whenever possible:
We are now using only FSC certified wood in our yurts. We are the first and only yurt builder to be certified by the Forrest Stewardship Council and are proud to be able to offer wood that has been responsibly harvested.
Our fabric is 100% cotton marine grade canvas. We have looked into many materials for our covers, and we feel that this is the best material for our structures. We decided early on that using PVC (vinyl) was not an option for us. There are too many environmental and health issues associated with this substance.
We finish our wood with non-toxic finishes that are safe for you and us.
We are always on the lookout for the latest in durable green materials. If you have any suggestions, please contact us at environment@goyurt.com.
Craftsmanship
Our shelters are built in limited quantities, with a focus on quality and lasting utility. We take our time crafting these shelters, spending a lot of effort on the fine details that ensure you will have a functional, durable and beautiful yurt for years to come. We decided early on that if we were going to use energy and materials to build a shelter, it needed to be the best thing we could possibly offer. It has been a long road to get to this point and we hope you enjoy the result!
